Position Overview:
Field Service Technician is a key member of the production team, with strong mechanical and electrical expertise. The primary focus is on troubleshooting, maintaining, and installing conveyor systems. The candidate must be able to follow detailed layout drawings and communicate effectively with customers and teammates. Experience with food and beverage industry standards, including sanitation best practices, is essential. The position requires travel, primarily in the Chicagoland area, with occasional nationwide assignments.
Key Responsibilities
Troubleshooting & Maintenance
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues with conveyor systems and other equipment.
- Determine and implement corrective actions to resolve issues, minimizing downtime and ensuring optimal performance.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections to prevent future issues and extend the lifespan of equipment.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and techniques to identify and fix complex problems efficiently.
Equipment Installation
- Install conveyor systems and related equipment at customer sites, ensuring precise adherence to dimensional layout drawings.
- Assemble, align, and secure mechanical components and electrical wiring according to specifications
- Utilize a variety of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment to perform installations
Safety Compliance
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations during service activities, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure compliance with company policies and industry standards related to equipment installation, maintenance, and safety.
- Understand and implement sanitation best practices, particularly important as most of our customers are in the food and beverage production space.
- Ensure all installations and maintenance activities adhere to sanitary standards and regulations, preventing contamination and ensuring equipment hygiene.
Customer & Team Communication
- Communicate effectively with customers to understand their needs, explain technical information, and provide clear updates on service activities.
- Collaborate with internal team members and other OEMs to coordinate service activities and share critical information.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and represent the company positively in all customer interactions.
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete detailed service reports, including work performed, parts used, and recommendations for future service.
- Document any modifications made to equipment or deviations from standard procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of service activities and customer communications.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in a related field is preferred.
- Proven experience in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and maintenance, preferably in the conveyor or manufacturing industry.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting dimensional layout drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve issues quickly and efficiently.
- Familiarity with sanitation standards and best practices in the food and beverage industry.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on delivering high-quality customer service.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites, sometimes on short notice, and work in various environments.
- Physical ability to lift moderate weight (30-50 lbs) and perform tasks that require standing, bending, and climbing.
